How To

Add Stock to a Product

How to add inventory to a product or variant when you receive a new shipment, count stock manually, or fix a discrepancy between Commerce Kitty and your physical count.

How stock works in Commerce Kitty

Stock is tracked per inventory source and per variant. A "product with 50 in stock" actually means "this variant has 50 units across one or more inventory sources." If you have one inventory source, the math is simple. If you have multiple, Commerce Kitty stores quantities per source and routes orders based on priority.

Adding stock means increasing the quantity at one specific inventory source for one specific variant.

Step 1. Find the product

Open Catalog → Products and search for the product you want to update. Click into it to open the detail page.

Step 2. Open variants

For a simple product, the stock action is on the product page directly. For a configurable product, you need to drill into a specific variant first because each variant has its own stock.

From the configurable product page, open the Variants section, find the variant you want, and click into it.

Step 3. Add stock

On the variant or product page, look for the Add Stock action. Click it to open the stock entry form.

Fill in:

  • Inventory source: the warehouse, fulfillment center, or location the stock is at
  • Quantity: the number of units you are adding

Save. Commerce Kitty creates a stock record and increases the available quantity for that variant at that source.

Adding stock is additive. Entering 50 units adds 50 to whatever is already there. If you want to replace the existing total instead of adding to it, edit the existing stock record directly rather than adding new stock.

What happens after

Once the new stock is saved, Commerce Kitty syncs the new total out to every connected channel that has Export Inventory enabled (which most do automatically). Within a few seconds, your Etsy, Shopify, eBay, and Amazon listings reflect the new available quantity.

Bulk adding stock

If you need to update many products at once, the manual flow above is slow. Commerce Kitty supports bulk inventory operations through:

  • The product import feature, which can update existing products by code
  • The API, for programmatic stock updates from spreadsheets or scripts
  • The Zapier integration, for connecting to inventory tools that already have your data

Fixing stock that is wrong

If your Commerce Kitty stock count does not match your physical count, do not just add the difference. Find out why first. Common causes:

  • An order was missed by sync and stock was not decremented
  • Stock was added at the wrong inventory source
  • A return came in but was not recorded in Commerce Kitty

Once you know the cause, you can either correct it directly (edit the stock record) or fix the underlying issue (record the missing order, log the return). The stock counts wrong troubleshooting page covers this in more detail.
