Playground
The Playground generates sample data so you can explore Commerce Kitty without connecting a real store. It is the fastest way to see how the app works before committing to an integration.
What it does
The Playground is a special plugin that creates demo products, customers, and orders inside your account. Once it runs, your dashboard fills up with realistic-looking data and you can click around every part of the app the same way a real user would.
Demo data is clearly tied to the Playground plugin. You can identify it, work with it, and remove it later without affecting any real data you import after.
When to use it
The Playground is for two situations.
- You just registered and want to see what Commerce Kitty looks like before connecting a real store.
- You are training a new team member and want a safe environment for them to practice.
If you are ready to connect a real store, skip the Playground and go straight to plugins. You do not need Playground data for production work.
How to launch it
On the thank-you page right after registration, click Launch Playground. If you skipped that page, the dashboard shows a Playground card whenever your account has no channels connected. Click it from there.
Either path takes you to the Playground plugin page, where you choose how much demo data you want.
Generation options
Generate Products
Creates sample products with codes, names, descriptions, and pricing. Choose between 1 and 100. The default is 10. Products are generated first because orders need products to link to.
Generate Customers
Creates sample customer records with names, emails, and addresses. Choose between 1 and 100. The default is 10. Customers are created after products and before orders.
Generate Orders
Creates sample orders that link to the demo products and customers from above. Choose between 1 and 100. The default is 10. Orders include items, totals, and a state, so they look real on the dashboard.
Generation order matters: products first, then customers, then orders. Commerce Kitty handles this automatically when you submit the form. You only see the final result.
What happens after
Once the Playground runs, you can navigate to Catalog → Products, Sales → Orders, and Customers to see the generated data. The dashboard KPIs also fill in based on the demo orders.
You can run the Playground more than once to add more data, but each run adds new records on top of the existing ones rather than replacing them.
Removing demo data
The cleanest way to clear demo data is to delete the Playground plugin from Configuration → Plugins. The records remain in your catalog and order list, but they are no longer tied to an active plugin.
Do not run the Playground on a production account that already has real data. The records intermix and it becomes hard to tell demo orders apart from real ones.
